Parish Council

Mission:
Called together by God to experience Jesus in His Word, in the sacraments of the Church and in each other, we are committed to love God and to embrace all God’s people as witnesses of God's mercy.
Group Information :

We hereby unite to form a Pastoral Council as a consultative body to the Pastor and as a coordinating and unifying structure of our parish community. In this Pastoral Council, Christ’s faithful, together with those who by virtue of their office are engaged in pastoral care in the parish, give their help in fostering pastoral action {Canon 536, No. 1}. As the representative body of Saint Patrick Church, the Pastoral Council is the vehicle to promote the implementation of shared responsibility, which is the involvement of the whole parish community in the mission of the Church. It is the charge of the Pastoral Council to be a steward of this mission and its goals.

The Pastoral Council will focus on the needs of our parish community of Saint Patrick within the Diocese of Norwich and in communion with the universal Roman Catholic Church throughout the world. We realize that while we may address the wants and needs of others, we may not always be able to meet them or to provide changes. Our purpose is to help build up the body of Christ and ‘make Church’. We believe that this can best be accomplished by the on-going formation of an involved faith community willing to fulfill and serve other’s needs with compassion and love.

Goals / Purpose
  • 1. To provide an open forum of communication and dialogue among all members of the parish.
  • 2. To maintain awareness of the pastoral and physical needs of the parish community.
  • 3. To provide encouragement and referral service, guidance and direction in fulfilling the mission and goals of the parish.
  • 4. To encourage everyone by our example and service to become a living expression of Jesus Christ.
  • 5. To be the active visionary force of the parish, looking to the future needs of all and enabling and empowering the parish to meet those needs.
  • 6. To serve as a coordinating body for the ministries and committees of the parish.
Membership:
The Council shall be composed of:
  • a. Members of the Pastoral Team – Pastor, Deacon, Pastoral Associate, Director of Music, Director of Religious Education, Religious Sisters and others as may be deemed appropriate.
  • b. Chosen Members – Ten {10} parishioners chosen in the manner described in Article IV.
  • c. Appointed Members – Two {2} parishioners appointed in the manner described in Article IV.

Eligibility
Any registered parishioner who has expressed a commitment to the Church through the reception of the Sacraments of Christian Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist) is eligible to be a member of the Council. Council members should be prayerful and committed to participating in the carrying out of this ministry and in the life of the Church.
