We
hereby unite to form a Pastoral Council as a consultative
body to the Pastor and as a coordinating and unifying structure
of our parish community. In this Pastoral Council, Christ’s
faithful, together with those who by virtue of their office
are engaged in pastoral care in the parish, give their help
in fostering pastoral action {Canon 536, No. 1}. As the
representative body of Saint Patrick Church, the Pastoral
Council is the vehicle to promote the implementation of
shared responsibility, which is the involvement of the whole
parish community in the mission of the Church. It is the
charge of the Pastoral Council to be a steward of this mission
and its goals.
The Pastoral Council will focus on the needs of our parish
community of Saint Patrick within the Diocese of Norwich
and in communion with the universal Roman Catholic Church
throughout the world. We realize that while we may address
the wants and needs of others, we may not always be able
to meet them or to provide changes. Our purpose is to help
build up the body of Christ and ‘make Church’.
We believe that this can best be accomplished by the on-going
formation of an involved faith community willing to fulfill
and serve other’s needs with compassion and love.
