| Pastor
Welcome: (Rev. Father Charles R. LeBlanc) |
As Pastor of St. Patrick Church, I am delighted
to welcome you to the St. Patrick Church Web
Site. God’s amazing gift of technology
has made it possible for us to communicate instantly
through this wonderful instrument. I hope that
you are as excited as I am about the enormous
potential this provides as it assists us in
fulfilling our Parish Mission Statement: Called
together by God to experience Jesus in His Word,
in the Sacraments of the Church and in each
other, we are committed to embrace all God’s
people as witnesses of God's mercy.
St.
Patrick Church is a Roman Catholic community
in East Hampton, CT. within the Diocese of Norwich.
Our parish family of 1400 households is friendly,
generous, caring and alive in the Spirit of
God. Our parishioners love God dearly and their
parish family compassionately. There are many
opportunities to develop and enrich your faith
and your relationship with God in the midst
of the Church through the celebration of the
Liturgy of the Holy Eucharist and through the
many ministries offered at St. Patrick Church.
You are most welcome to visit us. |

If
you are a non-practicing Catholic for whatever
reason and have not been nourished by Jesus
in the Holy Eucharist in some time, I personally
take this opportunity to invite you “home”.
We will do all that we can to help you rediscover,
appreciate and renew your Catholic identity.
If you are a non-Catholic and happen to be reading
this letter, please be aware that you are most
welcome to participate in some of the many programs
which our parish offers. Should you have any
questions or concerns about our Catholic Church
please do not hesitate to contact us. We treasure
your interest and involvement as a member of
our parish family whether as an active member
or one who is discerning their relationship
with God in the midst of the Church. We are
always open to new ideas, which will help us
serve each other more effectively.
To
all of you and to your families near and far,
we wish God’s peace and love.
In the Peace and Love of Christ,
Rev. Father Charles R. LeBlanc

History : |
| St.
Patrick Church first began as a Mission of East Hampton
in 1857 by Father Creighton from Colchester, CT. who
first said Mass in several residences in East Hampton
and Middle Haddam. The first Church building was erected
in 1869 approximately one half mile west of the current
Church location. The Mission of East Hampton was administered
by Father Duffy, the first Pastor of Portland, CT. In
the Autumn of 1895, Father Sweeney bought the current
Church lot for $500.00 and the Church was dedicated
on February 14, 1897. St. Patrick Church received Father
John T. Walsh as its first resident Pastor on September
15, 1900 and built the current rectory one year later.
The parish continued to grow under the Pastoral leadership
of Father Thomas Crumbly, Father Patrick Fox, Father
Edward Morrison, Father Francis Hinchey, Father James
Tyler, Father Charles Corcoran and Father Nathan Conklin.

In
1953 Father Thomas Stack was appointed Pastor.
Under his guidance the Puis X Center was constructed
in 1956 where it was renamed the St. Patrick Parish
Center in 1985. Father Roger Comtois succeeded
Msgr. Stack as Pastor and was followed by Father
Anthony Mitchell, Father Marcellius Liotta, Father
Stanley Szczapa and Father Thomas Twomey. Under
the guidance of Father Twomey a major renovation
and expansion of the Church was accomplished and
on November 3, 1997, Bishop Daniel Hart celebrated
the Rededication Mass of St. Patrick Church. Father
Charles LeBlanc, the current Pastor, was appointed
on July 1, 1998 where he continues to serve the
parish family of St. Patrick.
Chronicling the history of St. Patrick Church,
Father J. Ralph Kelley, in his book, Catholics
in Eastern Connecticut, The Diocese of Norwich,
refers to the growing number of parishioners in
East Hampton (served by St. Mary Church in Portland,
CT. in 1872) as “the already flourishing
mission.” From those days to the present,
the People of God in this choice vineyard of the
Lord have demonstrated an enduring faith, a zealous
dedication, and an ardent love for the Church.
Through the intercession of Saint Patrick, one
of the patron saints of the Diocese of Norwich,
may the Lord continue to guide and protect St.
Patrick Church as we continue to respond to the
call to live in holiness of life and become disciples
of the Lord Jesus Christ. |
