Peer Ministry
Our
Peer Ministry Program is one that we are very proud of and it
has touched the lives of many people since its inception. Once
our young men and women are Confirmed, they are given the opportunity
of becoming Peer Ministers in our parish. If they feel called
to this ministry, they will attend two training retreats. The
first of these we call our "Newbee" retreat. This retreat
is presented by the current Peer Ministers. It is a one-day, overnight
retreat designed to introduce the candidates to the skills they
will need as Peer Ministers. In addition, we attend a training
retreat weekend in Garrison, NY that further reinforces their
skills and challenges the candidates to "be a leader"
in the Church today. As Peer Ministers they have the opportunity
to head one of the areas of Ministry addressed by the YMPT.
They will participate in Youth Group
events and are truly the role models for the younger students
who attend. They will also work directly with the Confirmation
candidates as they prepare to receive the Sacrament. The Peer
Ministers will present a day retreat for our First Year students.
Many of the Peer Ministers also choose to be assistants to the
Confirmation level teaches, working hand in hand with the preparation
and presentation of classroom material. Our Peer Ministers attend
the Confirmation retreat and act as table and discussion leaders.
As their faith grows our Peer Ministers will touch the lives of
many others in the process..
